Must Have Products to Help Organize - Part 2

Before I introduce too many storage products, I need to discuss my main organizing love...

The Label Maker!

My friends that have known me a long time will know that I've always loved my label maker.  It is absolutely necessary to label everything.  I swear it makes a BIG difference!

When organizing my own home, I pretend I am organizing for a stranger.  They would need labels to know where everything belongs and where to find what they need.  If your house is labeled effectively your whole family can easily follow along.  Kids will know where to put back the scissors.  Your spouse will know where to find a new tube of toothpaste.  Get the idea?

I use the basic model (link) and it has served me well.  I've had mine for over 11 years.  However, there is a known issue with the battery software for this model, so it will state "low battery" even without "low batteries."  I just keep using mine and change the batteries when it dies, so it's not a problem for me for an otherwise great label maker that is quite inexpensive.

My 8 year old daughter has one of her own as well (she actually asked for it for Christmas, lol!)  She easily learned how to use it and now labels her own items to organize in her room.  Love!  The model she has is this one, the Dymo LabelManager.  We have not experienced any issues at all with this model.

For a much higher end, rechargeable version that has Bluetooth wireless technology, try a P-Touch Cube.  (One of these are on my wish list!)  I cannot give a review on these since I haven't tried them, but they are the most recommended by other organizers and they are able to print larger labels of up to 1 inch, which the less expensive models do not.

Where do I use labels?

Answer: Everwhere!  I personally use them everywhere.  :) This purchase will pay you back in like a day, lol!

  1. Kids Rooms/Playrooms: label as much as you can here!!! Label clothing drawers & sections, in desk drawers, shelves and all toy storage bins.  Make simple categories (like "trucks") so your kids can easily put back their toys.  This is the best way to get kids to clean up after play and keep their room tidy.
  2. Pantry: label food storage bins, baskets, etc.
  3. Kitchen: label all storage bins or containers that you have decanted product into.
  4. Refrigerator: label drawers and any bins you have.  I have labels like "Veggies, Cheese, Leftovers, Meat, Snacks."
  5. Garage: label every tote you have!
  6. Junk Drawer: label each drawer organizer bin so everything goes back where it should. "Flashlight, Pens, Keys, Phone, etc."

  7. Home Office: label file folders, binders, drawer organizer bins.
  8. Electronics: put extra phone cords in a bin or clear storage box and label, put labels around extra plug cords to identify what the cord goes to.
  9. Craft Room: all the things!  I actually need to finish doing this in my new garage office/craft room, but it's been too cold, and our heating unit install is delayed.
  10. Bathroom: drawer sections, any bottles you decanted bath and body products into, makeup drawers/organizer sections.
  11. Master Bedroom: I label each drawer section.
  12. Closet (linen, medicine, coat, bedroom, bathroom - all closets)
  13. Mudroom
  14. Camper/RV
  15. Shed
  16. Purse
  17. Soooo many places!

So, if you are focused on getting your home organized and if you want to maintain that organization, I absolutely recommend labels!
